It's important that we protect all of Long Beach, and that includes our animals. As a proud guardian and parent of my dog Anakin and my cat Tommy, I take animal welfare seriously. Long Beach is an animal loving city and we have done some great work over the last couple of years.
- We've opened up 5 new dog parks.
- We expanded and made improvements to Rosie's Dog Beach.
- New partnerships have been formed with rescue groups and other animal advocates.
Thanks to the hard work of our staff and volunteers at Animal Care Services, we continue to provide incredible care. I am so grateful the all the volunteers, animal rescue groups, and all the people that foster our animals and work to find them better homes.
This last weekend, I was proud to receive a "4 out of 4 Paws" rating from Stayin' Alive Long Beach, the only candidate for mayor to receive the "4 Paws" best rating. Having rescued animals myself from our Long Beach shelter, I know how important and rewarding it is to find a shelter animal a loving home.
Here's what they had to say:
"Dr. Robert Garcia has stood out among the candidates in his support of Long Beach’s shelter animals. He demonstrates insight, fairness and a willingness to examine shelter policies and data to make informed policy decisions."
The Stayin' Alive voter guide went on to say "Long Beach voters can feel confident that Dr. Garcia will advocate for Long Beach’s shelter animals in a way that will move the shelter toward a 90% save rate."
As mayor, I will work to move Long Beach forward for all residents including our four legged friends.
Go Long Beach,
Vice Mayor, Long Beach
