Councilmember Robert Garcia

Robert
Garcia was elected to the Long Beach City Council on
April 7, 2009 to serve the citizens of the First
City Council District. Robert is the youngest
elected City Councilmember and the first Latino in Long Beach history.
Robert is also the
Dean of Student Affairs at Long Beach City
College and has taught Communication Studies at both
Cal State Long Beach and Long Beach City College as
a part-time faculty member.
Robert's passion for
education has led him to pursue a Doctorate in
Higher Education. He also has a Masters Degree in
Communication Management from the University of
Southern California and a Bachelor's Degree in
Communication Studies from California State
University, Long Beach.

Chief of Staff: Susana Gonzalez

Susana
Gonzalez has worked for the California State
University system for 10 years. Seven years as the
Executive Director of the California State Student
Association (CSSA), and three years as a student
government administrator at California State
University, San Marcos.
Susana is also a First District resident and
homeowner. She lives in the West Gateway and across
the street from Caesar Chavez Park. Susana is
actively involved in Long Beach and is the new chair
of the Sustainability Commission.
Like Councilmember-Elect Garcia, she is the daughter
of immigrant parents and is fluent in Spanish.
Susana has a Master's degree in Public Policy and
Administration from California State University,
Long Beach, and a Bachelor's degree in Business
Administration from California State University, San
Marcos.

Legislative Director: Daniel Brezenoff

Daniel
Brezenoff is a licensed social worker and former
case manager at College Hospital in Signal Hill. For
two years, he has served as its Clinical
Coordinator.
A native of New York City, Brezenoff holds a
Master's degree from the University of North
Carolina School of Social Work and a Bachelor's
degree from the University at Albany, State
University of New York, where he earned a
certification to teach secondary social studies.
From 1999 to 2001, Brezenoff served as a member of
the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission,
subcommittee on domestic violence, and a member of
the governing board of WXYC radio in Chapel Hill.
Daniel has also been active in progressive politics
and his essays on social and political issues have
been published in the Press-Telegram and the
Los Angeles Times. Daniel and his wife and
son all live in Long Beach.

Cory
Allen is five year resident of Long Beach and is a
former staff member to Councilmember Tonia
Reyes-Uranga. Cory assisted the council office with
numerous duties, including serving as a liaison to
the LGBT community.
Cory is also a former
Guest Service Team Leader for Target in Long Beach
where he led a team of 80 people over 5 different
departments.
Cory is an active volunteer with the Gay & Lesbian
Center in Long Beach and served as the Campaign
Manager for the Robert Garcia for City Council
campaign. |
