This Saturday, Long Beach will become one of the few American cities to host one of the most exciting new events in sports: The ePrix – a formula car grand prix event for electric vehicles.
Long Beach joins global capitols like London, Buenos Aires and Beijing in the inaugural season of Formula E, the FIA's new, global open-wheel championship using fully-electric race cars.
Not only do these cars make for an exciting race, they also demonstrate the future of transportation – vehicles that don’t burn gasoline, but instead drive clean and quietly. Instead of the familiar loud buzz and roar of engines, the ePrix generates very little noise, and no pollution.
But they still move fast – at speeds exceeding 150 MPH.
The event is totally free and open to the public, and takes place all day this Saturday, April 4, with gates open at 7am and qualifying rounds beginning at 8:15am. This is a family friendly event with entertainment, food and demonstrations about green technology.

I’ll be there to watch and I hope you can join us. It’s a great day for Long Beach, a big step forward for sustainability, and an exciting event for race fans.
The ePrix begins two weeks of racing events culminating in the biggest annual event in Long Beach, the Grand Prix, and I hope to see you there as well.
