Yesterday, our Long Beach Police arrested the head of our city's most violent street gang, along with 8 others connected to 12 recent gang related shootings, two of which resulted in murders. This gang has been responsible for most of our city's recent shootings and gang activity.

These arrests are a very positive development for our city, and I want to express my gratitude for the hard work and bravery of our Police Department and our new Police Chief Jim McDonnell. We have sent a strong message that we will not tolerate gang activity in Long Beach, and if you commit a crime, our men and women in uniform will track you down.

Our police will keep the pressure on over the coming months. These arrests were the result of an intense investigation, and that kind of concerted effort will continue, because keeping our city safe is our top priority.

I am confident the men and women of the LBPD will continue to take measures that will make our city ever safer. We should all be very proud of our Police Department.
