We're Building An
Urban Farm Tomorrow...
I
would like to invite you tomorrow to help us build
the first Educational Urban Farm in Long Beach. At
9am, at 15th and Long Beach Blvd., we will be
planting seeds and trees, building a classroom,
installing a windmill and painting and constructing
a working farmstand. We will be on site from 9am to
4pm, so come down and join us on this historic and
exciting project for our city. Mayor Foster will
also be on hand to help us get started.
The Farm, which will be operated by New City Schools
will be a working farm that will add green space to
our community and provide exciting, hands-on
educational opportunities to students and community
members. The Farm comes out of a partnership we
facilitated between the Long Beach Housing
Development Company and the New City School.
Produce from the farm will be bought and sold on
site and community residents will be able to work on
the farm and enjoy this natural sanctuary in the
heart of an urban environment. Not only is this farm
an opportunity for students to learn first hand
about agriculture, economics, biology, and many
other subjects, it is also part of our continuing
efforts to enhance a neighborhood that has
historically lacked green space.
Thanks to all of our partners, including the City of
Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach, Home Depot,
Conservation Corps of LB, We Long Long Beach,
Revolution Foods, Matson Navigation, Evergreen
Shipping, Studio One Eleven, H&H Nursery, Tree
People, LB Water Department, At Last Cafe, and more!
Join us tomorrow at 9am and get ready to get your
hands dirty.
Go Long Beach!
