25 "We Love LB" Murals
Coming This Weekend To Downtown
I
want to share with you an exciting new project that
will bring together our community, create
locally-produced art, and enhance and beautify our
downtown. The Molina family, who own the
Press-Telegram building on 7th & Pine, have been
working with the Arts Council of Long Beach, the
Downtown Long Beach Associates and the non-profit
group We Love Long Beach to create 25 different
murals on the site of their future development.
The murals, funded by the Molina family, the Arts
Council of Long Beach, and the Downtown Long Beach
Associates, will be created from 25 giant We Love
Long Beach logos, stenciled in a band around the
entire façade, and then each interpreted by a
different artist or community group. Several of the
artists are affiliated with Artists as Art, a
downtown group of artists organized by curator Liza
Mitchell. Lyons Art Supplies is sponsoring the
materials for the art.
The murals will be painted over 2 days and you are
invited to participate on June 12th and 13th. We
will be kicking off the event at 11:00 am this
Saturday, June 12th. Anyone wishing to be involved
with the project should contact Robin Jones of We
Love Long Beach at
volunteer@welovelb.org
The murals will be temporary,
remaining until the building is developed, but we
hope to reuse the murals in other locations once a
development has started.
Art builds communities and greatly enhances the
character of a neighborhood. Hope you can join us
for a great weekend.
Go Long Beach!
