Courthouse Design Selected, Project Moving Forward

One of the most important projects happening in Long Beach is one step closer to groundbreaking today.

The team that will build and operate the new state courthouse has been selected, along their design for the downtown location, seen above.

The new courthouse will be a central feature of our downtown for many years to come, and the selection process was highly competitive. My congratulations go to Long Beach Judicial Partners -- a consortium led by Meridiam Infrastructure – for their winning design and all their hard work. I am confident they will not only build a beautiful courthouse, but that they will manage it efficiently and safely.

This courthouse will have a huge impact on our community, and I have worked with City staff and the State Office of the Courts to represent the interests of residents during this process and make sure that impact is positive.

This is a State project, so Long Beach doesn’t have any officially decision-making capacity. But we delivered over 100 letters to the Office of the Courts expressing our desire for a building that is environmentally responsible, physically inspiring, and well-managed. We also asked that the creation of local jobs is considered, that there is ample parking and other transportation options, and that the protection of public safety is paramount. I will continue to work to protect those values as the project moves forward.
