Fixing Downtown's
Major Streets
We are in the process
of making great improvements to our major streets in
Downtown Long Beach. Over the course of the next few
months, we will have repaved some of our major
streets, with more scheduled in 2011. Here's a list
of what to expect:
Long Beach Blvd
Construction on Long Beach Blvd is almost complete.
After 11 weeks of construction, our city crews have
replaced the street from Ocean to 10th. We have also
repaired damaged sidewalks, curbs and gutters and
installed handicapped ramps. Construction should be
complete in the next three weeks. The street from
10th to Anaheim will be constructed in 2011.
Pacific Avenue
In October, construction will begin on Pacific
Avenue between Ocean and 7th. The project should be
complete before the end of November and will include
constructing a new street, and replacing damaged
curbs and gutters.
Daisy Avenue
Next month, construction will start on replacing
Daisy between Anaheim and Pacific Coast Highway in
our industrial area. The street will be fully
reconstructed and expand the great work that was
done south of Anaheim on Daisy.
3rd Street & Broadway Bike Lane
You will also see construction soon along Broadway
and 3rd to install the new Downtown Bike Lanes.
These two new separated bike lanes will run East and
West on 3rd and Broadway in Downtown. This
construction will require many of the street
sections to be replaced. We will be adding a
serrated asphalt berm and other improvements.
What's Next?
In 2011, we are going to focus on two additional
major Downtown streets:
- 7th Street from Orange to Long Beach Blvd.
- Pine Avenue from Ocean to 8th.
